How your age is counted
The calculator steps forward from your date of birth in whole months, then counts the days left. A month added to the 31st lands on the last day of a shorter month, so 31 January plus one month is 28 or 29 February.
Worked example
Born on 15 January 2000, on 25 October 2026 you are 26 years, 9 months and 10 days old: 9,780 days in all. Your next birthday is 82 days away.
Useful for forms
Applications often set an age limit on a fixed date, such as a cut-off of 25 years on 31 December. Set "age on" to that date to check.
Questions people ask
How is exact age calculated?
Count the whole years since the birthday, then the whole months since the last birthday, then the days left over. That's how ages are counted on forms and documents.
How are 29 February birthdays handled?
In years without 29 February, the birthday is counted on 28 February.
Can I find my age on a past or future date?
Yes. Change the "age on" date to any day, for example the closing date of a job or school application.
