Volume Calculator
Volume of a box, cylinder, sphere, cone or pyramid, and how many litres it holds.
Box and pyramid: length. Cylinder, sphere and cone: radius (half the diameter).
Volume
1.6965 cubic m
- Holds
- 1,696.46 litres (373.2 UK gal, 448.2 US gal)
- In cubic metres
- 1.6965 m³
- In cubic feet
- 59.9099 cft
This cylinder holds 1,696.5 litres (1.696 m³).
How it's worked out
- Cylinder (tank, pipe) volume
π × radius² × height, with 0.6, 1.51.6965 cubic m - As litres
1.6965 m³ × 1,0001,696.5 L
Volume formulas
Box = l × w × h · Cylinder = π × r² × h · Sphere = 4⁄3 × π × r³ · Cone = ⅓ × π × r² × h
Worked example
A cylinder tank with a 0.6 m radius and 1.5 m height has a volume of π × 0.36 × 1.5 = 1.70 m³, which holds about 1,696 litres.
Questions people ask
How many litres does a water tank hold?
For a round tank, multiply π × radius² × height in metres, then by 1,000. A tank 1.2 m across and 1.5 m high holds about 1,696 litres.
How many litres are in a cubic metre?
1,000 litres. A cubic foot is 28.3 litres.
What is the volume of a sphere?
4⁄3 × π × radius³. A ball with a 1 m radius has a volume of 4.19 m³.
